<\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n The air was filled with laughter, the chattering of children and exclamations of, “Oh, this is where we used to play!” “This is where we’ d sneak into class!” “We planted this tree and look how tall it has become! “I used to dance on top of this wall!”<\/p>\n\n\n\n It was a homecoming for around 40 children, all former Thulir students! Now, they were back for a whole day packed with activities, reflections, reminiscences, life skills’ sessions and games! Many of the students recounted instances where lessons learnt in Thulir had helped them through difficult situations later on .<\/p>\n\n\n\n It was a rejuvenating and inspiring day not only for the alumni but for the Thulir teachers as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Sports Camp<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Recently the valley reverberated with energy, enthusiasm and the sounds of children and youth playing Kabadi, badminton and volleyball! It was the 5 day sports camp, first of its kind here, that has been in the works for a long time. For the first time in the valley, there was an all girls’ Kabbadi team!<\/p>\n\n\n\n Organized with the help of Mani, Santhosh and SVMT, this camp saw 108 registrations from every village in the valley. Coaches came from Bangalore and Thenur. Mani, Maasi, Suresh, Ramesh and Bharat initiated and co-ordinated the event locally. It was a HUGE success!<\/p>\n\n\n\n Glimpses from our school classes<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n 75 children from 11 villages now attend our school. The education here stimulates the head, heart and hands. The children not only engage in rigorous academics but they also do gardening, sports, craft and computers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Silambam Classes<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n We are excited to announce that we have started Sillambam (an ancient Thamizh martial art) classes for all the children. We can already see a positive difference in their physical agility, balance and co-ordination. Mr. Suresh from Harur comes once a week to guide the children in Silambam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Practical Social Studies<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Learning social studies can never be confined to four classroom walls, a bell and a timetable! It is best learnt from the society around.
