The Village lacks a good playground and we thought Thulir children should
have access to one. We have a modest size open ground for games and children
play football, koko, dodge ball and various Improvised local games.
Football [soccer] is a favourite game among Sittilingi Children. It was a
totally new game [they had not even seen it on TV!]. But they took to it
immediately and after a few weeks of explaining the basics, they have now no
difficulty in playing with proper sense of territory and passing. The balls are
a problem though. We bought a couple of local ones at Salem, the nearest town,
but they hardly last a couple of days before getting punctured when they fall
on the thorny bushes on the fence. Friends from Germany brought some very good
balls as gifts, last christmas.
Puzzles and self learning materials
We have collected with the help of friends various materials that are
useful in improving ones ability to reason and analyse, apart from helping to
learn language and math. These are hugely popular and the children use these
materials either singly or in small groups.
